How the tool works
Choose Add password, open an unprotected PDF, enter and confirm an opening password, and create the protected copy. To decrypt a document you are authorized to access, choose Remove password and enter its current user or owner password.
Supported input and output
The tool accepts PDF files up to 100 MB. New protected documents use AES-256 encryption. Password removal produces a standard unencrypted PDF copy while leaving the original file unchanged.
Practical example
Protect a report with a unique opening password before sharing it through a separate channel, or remove protection from your own archived document before organizing its pages.
Common use cases
Protect confidential reports, contracts, statements, application documents, or personal records, and decrypt authorized files for editing, archiving, or use in other PDF tools.
Limits and important checks
CosmoTools cannot recover forgotten passwords and does not crack or bypass unknown passwords. Some unusual, damaged, or unsupported encryption variants may be incompatible. PDF permissions depend on the viewer, but the opening password is cryptographically enforced.
Privacy and local processing
Unless the tool explicitly identifies an external lookup, input and generated output are processed in your browser and are not uploaded to CosmoTools. Avoid placing secrets in any web page and review downloaded results before using them in production.
